Speculative K:SI bullshit: The eighth wonder

The giant apes of Skull Islands are both its largest and most famous inhabitants. While adult skullcrawlers might still be longer, they are significantly less massive. A curious trait of the apes is their upright, bipedal gait; while their appearance reminds of a gorilla, they are actually closer related to humans than to any other extant ape species, with Ardipithecus possibly being their closest known relative. Unlike gorillas, they are also omnivorous, picking the leaves off whole trees or feeding on the slower megafauna.
Unfortunately, the species was one of the victims of the skullcrawlers, with only one specimen remaining their species is functionally extinct. Tales of the natives describe the apes' downfall as being met with strong resistance, with boneyards full of skullcrawler skeletons telling of the ancient battles. Kong, as the last living specimen was named, seems to have an aversion towards the giant varanids that can be described as hate: any time he was seen close to skullcrawlers, they ended up dead and sometimes it appeared like he seeked them out on purpose. Aside from this understandable animosity, the individual seems to be peaceful and supposedly had been observed helping other animals on occasion. The natives even worship him like a god and the protector of the island, telling that it will be doomed should he die or somehow leave.

Aand the last entry. This one was probably the most research-heavy, as it's not just a random specimen, but a particular individual depicted. References included Ardipithecus reconstructions and blackback gorillas.
