Description

The spiralweeds are the most primitive group of the helicovermiphytes and are found mostly im forests today. Their inner anatomy is similar to the related wormgrasses except fot the twisted axis, a trait shared by many of the higher plants on Red Earth. This adaption both offers better collection of sunlight and a more firm and extensive rooting in the ground. Because of these advantages, spiralweeds are far more common in umbrella tree forests than wormgrasses, although they maintain a more conservative shape. Their mobile larvae and sessile juveniles have a straight shape before the fibers in their water-filled intestine which serves as a hydraulic skeleton tighten up, twisting the body and provide additional support.

Riverspiral: Lives in shallow water. The overground root part is not twisted with the roots facing in the flowing direction.
Spinescrew: Older parts of the leaf die off, leaving the sclerotised parts of the eyestalks as thorns for protection. The largest species reach a height of 1,70 metres.

Damn! this is so cool! I was thinking of making some spiral plants for my own xenobiology project, but it seems every single idea I get has been used by someone else already. I feel so bad... =(
