REP: The Neuromycetes

Neuromycetes are a group of heavily-derived stonemosses, which lost both their ability to form silicate shells as well as the ability to photosynthesize. They are classified as stonemolds, a polyphyletic taxon of heterotrophic stonemosses, where the photosynthetic cell type either is lost or modified to snythesize other nutrients which are not the main food source. The neuromycetes are characterized by a single, elongated spore chamber from which the roots extend. Most of them are short-lived and fast-growing, releasing their spores after death by rupturing the spore chamber. Many species are also highly regenerative, being able to grow a new body from severed root pieces. They have a preference for ephemeral habitats where they don't have to compete with other, usually much slower-growing stonemolds and a significant amount of species lives as parasites.

Round skincrawler: A parasitic species where the spores are concentrated in a sac that remains outside of the host's body and can regrow after the spores have been released. This species possesses a thin spore sac that can be easily torn by passing pneumonopteres, which spread the spores onto new hosts, the leaves of umbrella trees in this case.
