Description
Smooth mantlelurker: This small predatory species is one of the few living on the Western continent, where they can be found in midgardroot savannas. Their back is extended into a mantle-like structure they hide their bodies under when waiting for prey; it consists of bone-plated skin which also serves as defense against predators and the sun. Their fingers are reduced to two, which possess large sheaths that are used like hooks or spears to catch small passing-by tetragnathes or pneumonopteres.
Harvestman mantislizard: Another predatory centaur that is related to the mantlelurkers. This lanky species lives in harvestman tree forests where it hunts pneumonopteres and is able to catch them in flight. It is the species with the longest secondary neck.
Very nice fellow! Is easy to imagine this specie stepping into verbal intelligent and building themselves a civilization.
Brings to mind that argument from George RR Martin about his "dragons" being wyverns, instead of proper four legged ocidental dragons, because the 4 legs more 2 wings would make the beasts 6 legged. What, according to the good old man "is impossible" because there is no example in nature (as far as vertebrates are concerned, he is clearly implying). Well, lots of thing had no example in nature for a long time, until when the first example of them evolved. Some could even say "all" traits of living creatures fall in this category.
We evolved one pair of limbs, then another. Why not more? Limbs are nice!
