Artist's Comments

Although the manta seatowel may not look very different from the other seatowel species, there are important anatomical differences that make it stand out. Being a plancton feeder, it has a brush-like tongue to filter its food out of the water. Since tetragnathes use their tongues also as genitals, this development Led the manta seatowel to parthogenetic reproduction.

:iconramul:
7-12 metre fin span, depending on the species.

Holy S***!
Big fish-type thing!
Slightly related: how big are manta rays? They occupy a similar niche in our world, but I don't know offhand how big they get...
Do you have pictures of other types of seatowels?

If your brain hurts, then you must see a neurosurgeon about getting it removed.
:iconramul:
Almost 8 metres, according to Wikipedia. Finsuckers ( [link] )are a seatowel family, other seatowels will be done.
:iconhashisher:
They are also... Tetragnathes(sp)? Is that name in reference to their four (tetra) jawbones?
They're cool regardless. Convergence! Similar niche = similar creature filling it.

:iconramul:
Yes, "tetragnathe" refers to the quadruple jaws and means all four-jawed, six-eyed and six-legged/horicontally-finned animals on the REP sheets. They are similar to earth's chordates.

How would filter feeding lead to parthenogenesis?
:iconramul:
As explained, they use their tongue for filter feeding and at the same time as genitals. Because of the brush-like shape of the tongue the mating process became very difficult, so parthenogenesis was an advantage to them.
